Hereby we would like to inform you about the most important information about how and where you can apply for a British Passport.
Only people who are British nationals can apply for a British passport. Nationals from 16 years of age can apply to get their first British passport otherwise; the parents apply for the passport in their name with their presence. As the passport issue process takes about 3 weeks, those nationals who will be 16 years of age within 3 weeks can also give in their application. If you hold a child passport you can use it until it expires even if the expiration date is over the age of 18 years of age.
A British passport is eligible for 10 years for adult citizens. For children the eligibility depends on the exact age of the baby, toddler or child.
You can apply, renew and update your passport online through gov.uk website if you are holding a debit or credit card to pay for the cost online. You can also apply by filling out an application form in any post office or in any regional passport office.
If you apply for your first passport it should take 6-8 weeks for you to get it. In case you apply for a renewal or initiate a change in your current passport the procedure should last around 3 weeks. If you apply for a new passport or initiate changes to your current passport living overseas the process should take around 4 weeks.
If you need a passport urgently so you can do it, opting for the urgent passport service, which would cost you an extra fee but it would deliver your passport to you sooner. Premium (1 day) and Fast Track (1 week) passport applications services are available for those wanting to get their passport sooner through a Passport Customer Centre. Extra fees are not enlisted; therefor you will need to obtain this information in person or over the phone.
Application for the first passport and passport renewal both costs GBP 72, 50 for a standard 32 page passport. Application for a child passport costs GBP 46 per person.
You will need to provide with a fully filled out application form and 2 standard passport photographs.
If you apply online or at a post office you get the chance to pay with a debit or credit card. If you wish to pay by a check, you can do that at any post office with the use of post office check and send service. If you want to pay by cash you can do so in any regional post office or at any regional passport office too.
