The aims of this site.
Childhood sexual abuse is far more
common than many would like to think. Here in the UK it works out at
just over 400 people a day abused for the first time. It usually
happens with someone known to the child, and trusted by the family,
and in very many case's is even a member of the child's own
family. It happens to both females and males, and the abuser can
also be either male or female and often is done by both. Sometimes it
happens just the once, but sadly it often goes on for weeks or even
many years. The effects that childhood sexual abuse can have on survivors can last for a lifetime, and can
affect many different aspects of adult life. There are laws, campaigns,
TV programs and web sites to help try and reduce the chances of sexual
abuse happening
in the first place. Here at this site we try to help bring people
together who have suffered from the effects of childhood / adult sexual abuse and to break the isolation
and shame they feel. Talking to other childhood sexual abuse
survivors, will hopefully help you to to find understanding and a path
forward in life. This we do by way of both open, member only web
support forums (message boards), together with several abuse survivor
support chat rooms and a range of articles on related topics; including
sections for the male
survivor and female
survivor, but most articles are in the adult
sexual abuse survivors section. Here you do not need to
feel alone any more. No one at the site is trained as
therapists, we are just adult childhood sexual abuse survivors like yourself. Whilst
all survivors of childhood sexual abuse
are more than welcome to use the site for support, it is also highly
recommended that male survivor, and female survivor of childhood sexual
abuse also seeks the help of trained therapists as well in real life.
You should not use the site as a replacement for therapy, but rather as
an additional form of support for survivors of abuse.
