Many
survivors of physical, emotional and childhood sexual abuse have
various problems with food. To some extent they can be classed
within the realms of Anorexia and Bulimia, but for many it is more a
case of emotional eating and fasting to control weight gain.
The
eating problems thus become a coping method for handling the
emotional pain, much like those who self harm. It is also not
surprising that some survivors who have eating problems also have
self harm issues as well.
This
does not mean that any eating problem should be taken lightly, as
ALL of them can, at best, result in long term problems later in
life, such as osteoporosis, bowel cancer, IBS, heart attacks and
many other medical conditions, and at the other end of things in the
shorter term even death. Medical
advice and therapy, is ALWAYS recommended.
